Fish skin is as resistant as any other suede product and will soften and get dirty naturally with time.

With wear, the scales raise creating an unravelled look, however, it should NOT be considered damaged. Carp and tilapia skin has the most rugged/unravelled look. If you prefer a less rugged look, try salmon skin.
